A method for reasoning under uncertainty.
When information is incomplete, ambiguous or contradictory, SPES orders it and shows its structure —what holds up what, what falls if one piece fails— so that the decision is taken by whoever decides.
Rationality can increase even when certainty does not.
Uncertainty is not a defect of knowledge: it is the normal condition under which people, organizations and institutions must decide. The purpose of SPES is to produce rationality within that uncertainty.
Rationality is the foundation of SPES. Everything else exists to make it possible.
Reasoning under uncertainty does not depend on intuition or individual talent alone. There exists a procedure that can be described, disciplined, executed and audited. That procedure is the SPES method.
It does not belong to any particular profession: it applies to law, to medicine, to consulting, to scientific research, or to any field where decisions must be taken with incomplete information.
The method endures. The applications change.
The method needs to be executed. The engines are the way it becomes operational —not the foundation.
When reality admits of a structured representation, it builds it in a deterministic, traceable and auditable manner. When such a structure does not yet exist, it can project one as a working tool. And when the evidence is not enough for a reliable representation, it can dispense with it without compromising the rationality of the process. Structure is never an end: it is an instrument in the service of reasoning.

Artificial intelligence is not the foundation of SPES. Nor is it its method. It is the technology that today makes it possible to execute that method with a speed, a scale and a degree of control previously unattainable.
If a superior technology existed tomorrow, the method would remain. Only the way of executing it would change.
This is why SPES is not defined by a technology. It is defined by the rationality that technology makes possible.
Applications of the same method to different domains. Each incorporates the knowledge of its discipline; all share the same foundation, the same method and the same execution architecture.
The diversity of applications does not fragment the system. It confirms it.
The system proposes. The human decides.
SPES does not replace professional judgement: it strengthens it. Responsibility remains with the one who decides; SPES improves the conditions under which that decision is taken.
